Practical Behavior Approach
​
The Practical Behavior Approach is a comprehensive workshop designed to help attendees successfully reduce problem behaviors and improve cooperation, independence, and engagement of children of all ages. Learn how to prevent problem behaviors and respond effectively when negative behaviors occur while building essential positive skills. Discover how a child’s diagnosis, history of trauma, and sensory needs impact behavior and the strategies we use. The strategies in this session can apply to students of all ages with and without a disability.
Three hours of PD or EILA credit will be awarded for participation in each virtual session.

Access to Opportunity: Postsecondary Transition Cadre

This professional learning cadre brings together those who work with and support students with disabilities as they prepare for life after high school. Through collaborative learning, resources, and best-practice strategies, participants will deepen their understanding of effective postsecondary transition planning. Topics will include college and career readiness, independent living skills, community-based opportunities, and connecting students with agencies and supports. The cadre will highlight practical tools, state and federal requirements, and real-world examples to help teachers design meaningful, student-centered transition plans. Educators will leave equipped to guide their students toward successful and fulfilling futures in education, employment, and independent living.

Creating Engaging and Authentic Learning Experiences with Performance Tasks

Description: With Kentucky schools looking for more ways to engage students in authentic and meaningful learning experiences, teachers must consider how to create these experiences and assess Portrait of a Learner competencies such as collaboration, communication, and higher-order thinking skills. This in-person session will focus on formative and summative assessments for these competencies, developing performance tasks, and engaging students in feedback protocols. Time will be devoted during the session for participants to workshop and plan a performance task for their classrooms.
Participants will receive a copy of Designing Authentic Performance Tasks and Projects: Tools for Meaningful Learning and Assessment by Jay McTighe, Kristina J. Doubet, and Eric M. Carbaugh.
Fee: $25.00 for Member Districts, $125.00 for Non-Member Districts

Building-to-Building Transition: For Low Incidence Classrooms

Description: This session will prepare educators to support students as they transition from one school building to another—a process that can be challenging, especially for students with disabilities who rely on predictability and routine. Participants will explore why change can be difficult, learn best practices for easing transitions, and collaborate on planning strategies with receiving school staff. Discover how to smoothly transition your learners to a new classroom and school environment by using evidence-based practices and supports. In this session, we will discuss creating schedules to help transition, planning between teachers at different buildings, and how to help support your low-incidence learners.

Promoting Productive Struggle in Mathematics

This full-day, in-person workshop is designed to provide strategies to foster productive struggle in math classrooms. We will explore misconceptions and move towards building communities of mathematical thinkers in our classrooms. A focus will be on the Math Teaching Practices of implementing tasks that promote reasoning and problem solving, facilitating meaningful mathematical discourse, posing purposeful questions, and supporting productive struggle in learning mathematics.

During this session, participants will also receive an overview of the free tools of the Desmos Classroom Activity Builder. Participants will explore an activity from the student and teacher perspectives. Participants will learn how to create engaging activities that promote critical thinking and problem-solving and begin developing an activity of their own.
