Description: This 6-hour professional development session is designed for Kentucky Health and Physical Education teachers to gain a deep, practical understanding of the new Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Health Education and Physical Education and develop actionable strategies for their successful implementation in the classroom and gym.
Participants will move beyond simply reading the standards to aligning with the current curriculum and building high-quality, standards-based instructional resources. The session will emphasize the shifts in focus within the new Kentucky standards, ensuring teachers are prepared to transition their instruction effectively by the implementation deadline (no later than the 2026-2027 school year).

Project iGuardian

Description: Project iGuardian™ is presented by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the primary investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In this session, Project iGuardian will inform educators about the risks that children face in the online environment. This engaging presentation will cover tactics used by adult predators online, the growing crime of sextortion, the information devices give away about you and your child, and the newest apps, online games, and social networks children are using. There will also be example scenarios based on local investigations to help attendees better understand how children can be victimized online.
District and School teams are encouraged to attend together. Time will be devoted to team discussions and questions for the presenter.

Vibrant Learning Experiences in Secondary Math Class

Vibrant learning encourages students to take ownership of their learning–to make it matter to them. In this workshop, you will unlock the power of rich tasks that challenge students to reason, problem-solve, and collaborate. Participants will learn how to foster a classroom culture where students explore big ideas, ask questions, and take intellectual risks. You will be equipped with ready-to-use strategies that bring energy and purpose to every math lesson.
Participants will be asked to bring in at least one lesson that they can rework during the workshop.

Are you looking for tools to help you gauge where your students are and how they are progressing with respect to essential skills in the Algebra classroom? If so, then this training is for you! Project AAIMS (Algebra Assessment and Instruction: Meeting Standards) is a project funded by the US Department of Education with the purpose of developing algebra assessment tools that can be used for monitoring the progress of students with and without disabilities as they learn algebra. Outcomes of this training include:

Develop an understanding of progress monitoring

Know how to administer, score, and use data from three (3) different measures

Understand the relative merits and weaknesses of each of the measures
-
Consider issues related to implementing algebra progress monitoring.
These measures are designed to be administered in person, not in a virtual setting.
To ensure fidelity, participants of this training may use the probes with their classes ONLY. They may NOT share the probes with others or train other teachers to use them. Participants will be asked to sign a User Agreement prior to the training.
At the completion of the training, participants will be given a link to a Google Folder containing the measures.
$125 fee for Non-Member Districts

Building Math Minds in Grades 4-8: One Manipulative at a Time

An engaging hands-on professional development session for educators teaching math in grades 4-8. We will focus on helping learners in upper elementary and middle school—especially students with disabilities—develop deep, conceptual understanding of math through the intentional use of manipulatives. This training explores strategies from Mastering Math Manipulatives by Sara Delano Moore and Kimberly Rimbey. Participants will receive a copy of the book, a set of manipulatives, and other manipulative-related resources. Discover how to turn abstract math into concrete learning experiences that support all students in building confidence and competence in math.

Don’t Poke the Bear: Staying Cool When Behavior Heats UP

Join us for an in-depth, in-person training that introduces the "acting out" cycle and effective de-escalation practices. This session is designed to help educators recognize the stages of escalating behavior, respond proactively, and apply strategies that reduce the likelihood of crisis while maintaining a safe, supportive classroom environment.

Description: In this 1-day workshop, participants will learn how to establish and sustain comprehensive school safety efforts that attend to both physical and psychological safety. The workshop addresses critical components needed to develop, exercise, and evaluate safety and crisis teams and plans and conduct building vulnerability assessments. The model also integrates school personnel and community provider roles in providing school-based crisis preparedness and response activities. Additional topics addressed also include media/social media, communication, reunification, students with special needs, culture, and memorials. After this workshop, participants will be better prepared to improve their school’s climate, student resilience, and crisis response capabilities of school personnel. With updated research and strategies, this workshop makes a clear connection between ongoing crisis prevention, mitigation, protection, response, and recovery. PREPaRE Workshop 1 provides a broad overview of the school crisis team's roles and responsibilities, with a special emphasis on crisis prevention and preparedness.
Participants must attend the entire day and stay through the end of the day to take the post-test in order to receive a certificate of completion.
NOTE: Registration Deadline is Thursday, February 12 at 12:00 noon ET.
NOTE: This training is offered at no cost through a grant with KDE! However, due to having to purchase seat licenses ahead of time, anyone who cancels registration after Thursday, February 5, 2026, will be billed for the license fee.

Stations Made Simple: Building Independence and Participation

Description: This session is designed to assist teachers in the MSD classroom on creating and running stations. It will introduce participants to the purpose and power of using stations in Moderate/Severe Disabilities (MSD) classrooms. Educators will learn why small-group and independent work systems increase engagement, improve skill acquisition, and support differentiated instruction. The training will guide participants through how to get started with stations—beginning small with teacher-led, para-led, and independent stations—and will explore examples of the types of stations that can be used across content areas. Participants will leave with practical tools, clear structures, and simple starting points to begin implementing stations effectively in their own classrooms.
This is an in-person session. Participants will receive a 6-hour PD certificate.
