Bounce 101: Introduction to ACES and Trauma Informed Practices

People face many stressors that can have a life-long impact on their ability to thrive. Yet it is possible to foster resilience, equipping people with the tools to effectively respond to adversity and bounce back. This on demand module supports this goal by increasing understanding of the lifelong impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and building individual and organizational skills to nurture resilience. You will encounter materials that foster trauma-informed approaches to serving your students and caregivers. This module is for people that are early in their understanding of ACES and Trauma Informed Practices.
Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition and Reporting
1 Hour of PD Credit
In this on-demand module, participants will learn about common indicators of physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and human trafficking. Participants will gain an understanding of how to properly report suspected abuse or neglect. Information will also be shared on the roles and responsibilities of school personnel and DCBS. This module may fulfill the KRS 156.095 requirement for child abuse and neglect recognition and reporting. Participants will need to verify with their school district administrators to determine if this training will fulfill the KRS 156.095 requirement for child abuse neglect recognition and reporting.

​Developing a Comprehensive School Counseling Program
6 Hours of PD or EILA Credit

In this self-paced, on-demand module, participants will learn to:

identify the three sets of standards that help school counselors develop, implement, and assess their school counseling program;

manage and analyze data for continuous program improvement, determine annual student outcome goals, and access and utilize a variety of tools to support the management of the Comprehensive School Counseling Program (CSCP);
-
explain the elements of the Deliver component within the ASCA National Model and differentiate between direct and indirect student services; and
-
use available data to determine program effectiveness and inform improvements to their school counseling program design and delivery.

​Digging Deeper into Mindfulness
4 Hours of PD or EILA Credit
This on-demand professional development is meant to support additional understanding of Mindfulness in school. Our brains were not designed for constant notifications, endless channels, multiple apps, 40-plus work weeks, social media, social events, text messages, emails, and phone calls. No wonder we feel stressed out and overwhelmed, and living life on high alert. Research shows that “relaxed students learn better and relaxed teachers teach better.” In this session, participants will explore research around mindfulness for students and staff, to add to your toolkit full of additional strategies for reducing stress in the classroom and leave with ready-to-implement ideas.
1 Hour of PD or EILA Credit
Handle With Care is a collaborative initiative between law enforcement and schools to address possible exposure to traumatic events. This self-paced, on-demand module can typically be completed within one hour and will result in one hour of EILA credit.

Noncompliance in the Classroom and Educational Setting
3 Hours of PD Credit
This session will be on practical behavior and academic strategies used to effectively work with students who have been diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder or who are just noncompliant. Working with students who have control issues can be an extremely frustrating task; however, when one has a clear understanding of the disorder, it is much easier to identify the function of inappropriate behavior and to design appropriate interventions to ensure student success.

Mindfulness Overview: Strategies for Classroom Mindfulness

This online module is meant to support a practical understanding of mindfulness in schools. Research shows that “relaxed students learn better and relaxed teachers teach better.” In this session, participants will explore research around mindfulness for students and staff, build a toolkit full of strategies for reducing stress in the classroom and leave with ready-to-implement ideas.
Secondary Traumatic Stress: Building Educator Resilience
1.5 Hours of PD or EILA Credit
This on-demand module provides an overview of secondary traumatic stress and the effect it can have on school staff. Strategies are shared on how to increase the resilience of educators so that they are better protected against secondary traumatic stress.
Suicide Prevention and Intervention
1 Hour of PD or EILA Credit
In this on-demand module, participants will learn about the prevalence of suicide in the US and Kentucky. Participants will gain an understanding of common risk factors, warning signs, and protective factors as it relate to suicidal ideation. Resources will be shared for screening and interventions. This module may fulfill the KRS 156.095 requirement for suicide prevention and intervention. Participants will need to verify with their school district administrators to determine if this training will fulfill the KRS 156.095 requirement for suicide prevention and intervention training.

Supporting Mental Health in the Classroom

This on-demand module will provide an overview of mental health and what distress looks like in the classroom. Strategies and resources are shared to help educators support the mental health needs of their students.
Trauma Informed Care for Educators: The Basics
2 Hours of PD or EILA Credit
As educators, we hear a lot about trauma. This on-demand module provides a basic overview of trauma-informed care for educators. Participants will learn about the definition of trauma, how it may look in the classroom, and strategies to help students.
