Achieving Fluency: Supporting Struggling Learners in Mathematics

  • Description: What is mathematical fluency all about?  Why do some students struggle to become mathematically proficient?  This workshop is designed for teachers and administrators who work with students with disabilities and other students who struggle in the mathematics classroom.  Using current research, participants will examine some of the obstacles to learning math and ways to help students overcome them.  Particular attention will be paid to the various strands of mathematics (number/operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data/probability).  Participants will leave with ready-to-use information and strategies for Achieving Mathematical Fluency.
