Phonological awareness is ‘a multilevel skill of breaking down words into smaller units’ (Gillon, 2018). This is an area that is often ignored for students with significant disabilities, especially learners who are nonverbal. But phonological awareness is fun and easy to teach to students who are nonspeaking or who have significant visual impairments, including CVI. Come learn some powerful big ideas and a few fun.
