CKEC Professional DevelopmentCentral Kentucky Educational Cooperative (CKEC) provides professional development opportunities for the twenty school districts that it serves. These activities are planned based on needs assessments using formal and informal surveys as well as a review of Comprehensive School and District Improvement Plans. Each district Professional Development Coordinator meets monthly with CKEC staff for training activities and to discuss ways the Coop may best meet the professional development needs of the member districts. Each summer CKEC co-sponsors with Central Kentucky Special Education Cooperative (CKSEC) a Summer Institute of professional development activities. Our main objectives are to ensure that all of our training is of “high quality” and meet the needs of the personnel we serve. The Principals’ Cadre is part of the ongoing professional development that is provided by the cooperative for principals with less than three years experience. The cadre is conducted in conjunction with the University of Kentucky College of Education, Department of Supervision and Administration. There are four meetings each year that provide these professionals an opportunity to learn ways that helps them in their daily challenges of being a principal. One of the main benefits of the cadre is that it provides principals with an opportunity to network with colleagues. Experienced principals serve as mentors upon request. CKEC also sponsors a Continuing Education Option (CEO) along with the Educational Professional Standards Board (EPSB) whereby teachers and administrators may receive a rank change through a program that is based on professional development. CKEC provides a coach for every twelve participants to assist them as they plan and implement their program that will enable them to receive a higher educational rank.
